The Dallas Pubic Library announced the winners of the 19th annual Express Yourself! Youth Poetry Competition and Cover Art Contest last month. All 62 poetry finalists were invited to read their poems and receive their awards at the April 25 ceremony. The five cover-art finalists had their work on display, and the winning art will serve as the cover for a published anthology of the finalists’ poems. Selected finalists also had their poems read aloud during the Children’s Chorus of Greater Dallas spring concert on April 26 at the Meyerson Symphony Center. The next contest opens Sept. 20. Join us on Saturday, May 16, 2015, for the first Dallas ISD Superintendent’s Scholarship Run, beginning and ending at Woodrow Wilson High School. Want to check out the route ahead of time? Watch this video, which takes you on 5K course in two minutes. The video was captured using a GoPro camera mounted to a car (on road sections) and to a bicycle (on the trail sections). In order to increase the number of the Dallas ISD university and expert partnerships, the STEM Mathematics Department has partnered with Carnegie Learning to provide professional learning opportunities to summer school campus leadership staff in the areas of academic rigor, high cognitive tasks, and effective lesson planning. Carnegie Learning is a provider of math curricula for grades 6–12. The professional development opportunity is scheduled for May 21 and June 9 at D. A. Hulcy Middle School.
