Dallas ISD’s baseball teams slide into playoff action this week with competition scheduled around the metroplex. W.T. White was first up Thursday night among the district’s Bi-District Baseball playoffs qualifying teams. White’s Longhorns beat Mesquite Horn 2-1 in eight innings. Tonight, we have a host of games, with all 10 of our Dallas Athletics high schools playing in the first round of UIL Baseball. There may be adjustments due to the weather. As part of Teacher Appreciation Week, Capital One employees assembled and donated 3,000 boxes of small treats to Dallas ISD teachers. The boxes included handwritten cards of thanks. Thanks to Capital One, and thanks to all the Dallas ISD teachers for their dedication and hard work!
The Health and Physical Education Department is looking for student-created videos, newsletters, apps, and animations that promote exercise, nutrition, disease prevention and healthy habits. Students who use these and other digital projects to educate the community about health and wellness can win prizes such as USB flash drives, wristband pedometers and digital projectors by entering their creations in Dallas ISD’s first-ever Digital Media Fair. The competition is open to students at all grade levels and all subject areas. Entries will be judged by a panel of experts. Check out a short video of Mariachi Pegaso, a new student music group at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. The group was started in 2014, thanks in part students who had attended W.E. Greiner Middle School and participated in its award-winning Mariachi program.
