Educating the 160,000 students in Dallas ISD requires nearly 12,000 teachers. The Human Capital Management department has been charged with placing an effective teacher in every classroom by the start of the 2015-2016 school year. With the May 30 teacher job fair on the horizon, that goal is squarely within reach. “We’ve had a great recruiting and hiring season so far,” said Dallas ISD Talent Leader Jordan Carlton. “We’ve issued around 800 early contracts and over 1,000 teachers have already received job offers, so we’re very close to our goal.” The majority of remaining openings are in critical needs areas,…

Participants at the Dallas ISD Superintendent’s Scholarship Run – including honorary event chairman Tim Brown and Superintendent Mike Miles – talk about why they wanted to be a part of the first-year event. Proceeds from the run’s sponsorships and registrations of nearly 500 runners will benefit the Superintendent’s Scholarship Fund, which funds awards given to some of the district’s top graduating seniors each year.

Nearly 500 runners, 498 to be exact, registered to participate in the inaugural Superintendent’s Scholarship Run on Saturday, May 16, at Woodrow Wilson High School. The run raised funds to help send deserving high school seniors to college. Participants ranged from seasoned runners and school groups to senior citizens and district staff who received support along the way from cheerleaders, drill team members and athletes. After crossing the finish line, runners perused the booths in “Race Alley,” where they learned about district programs such as School Choice, Early Childhood and STEM and sampled products from the vendors who sponsored the event.…
