KERA recently profiled Tutormate, which is an innovative nationwide effort aimed at increasing the number of first and second graders reading at grade level. Nancy J. As the school year and the rigor of daily classes wane, Dallas ISD is gearing up to keep students learning with a touch of fun. Families have many programs from which to choose to engage students in summer learning. There’s no need for students to spend all day sitting in the house watching TV, playing video games and losing hard-earned knowledge gained from the just-finished school year. Instead, students can participate in hands-on science projects and explore careers in STEM, expand their musical talents at band or strings camp, or have fun as they learn and practice their English language or…

It seems as though tablets, TVs and cellphones are constantly upgrading, leaving old electronics to collect dust. Did you know that donating or recycling your electronics could help reduce air and water pollution? According to the Environmental Protection Agency, recycling 1 million laptops saves the same amount of energy equivalent to the electricity used by more than 3,500 U.S. homes in a year. Remember to delete your personal information from your electronics before donating or recycling.

Graduation season is happening May 29–June 7, and in honor of Dallas ISD graduates, The Hub is spotlighting a different senior each day as the Class of 2015 prepares to take their anticipated walk across the stage.
