Premiere music ensembles from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts are performing this week as part of The Grand Concert. The concerts happening April 21–22 will feature a variety of music styles. The lineup is: April 21: Meistersingers, Opera Ensemble, Piano, Symphony Orchestra, BTWHSPVA Jazz Singers, Pop Ensemble, R&B Ensemble April 22: Wind Ensemble, Guitar Ensemble, Varsity Girls Choir, Junior Varsity Orchestra, Varsity Orchestra, Varsity Mixed Choir, Mariachi Pegasus, Latin American Ensemble, Jazz Combo I, Midi Ensemble The event is being held at the high school located at 2501 Flora St. Tickets to the concerts are $10.

Select seniors from every Dallas ISD comprehensive and magnet high school will receive commitments for $2,500 scholarships at Tuesday’s annual Superintendent’s Scholarship Reception at Emmett Conrad High School. Parents, principals, school counselors and trustees will be on hand to congratulate the 62 students selected by their campus scholarship committees to receive the awards based on need, character, grades, essays and recommendations. This is the 15th year of the Superintendent’s Scholarship Program, which has awarded more than $2 million in scholarships since its inception. Rosalinda Montejano has worked at Harry C. Withers for three years. Montejano’s son currently attends Withers, and her pre-teen daughter attended the school. Montejano said it’s important for the community to support schools, which is why she volunteers three to four times each week by decorating classroom doors, offering her time to the Latin Advisory Committee, and helping with school events such as Paw Paw Palooza. Montejano said her efforts are her way of giving back to the teachers who so willingly help her children and other students every day.
