Summer learning sessions have begun, and the Dallas Independent School District urges motorists traveling near schools to help keep students safe by observing speed zones and using caution. Some campuses in Dallas ISD are currently hosting tutoring sessions and other student-centered activities, while others are beginning their summer school sessions. In addition, a large number of Dallas ISD campuses are participating in the annual summer meal effort. This means traffic near active campuses could include students. Drivers are encouraged to observe speed zones when flashing light signals are active, and to be aware of students walking near schools.

More than $1.37 million in Stars on the Rise scholarships will be awarded to 275 graduating seniors across north Texas, including from Dallas ISD. The program is coordinated by the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and funded through drives and corporate donations. The scholarships range from $2,000 to $96,000 – the highest amount representing a four-year scholarship from Austin College. During the past 32 years, the fund has given more than $30 million in scholarships to more than 3,500 students.
