Students from multiple clusters in Skyline High School have come together on a project to beautify Ferris Park in Downtown Dallas. With the help of teachers and community partners such as Make Art With Purpose, The Beck Group, and Osburn Commercial Concrete, Skyline students in the architecture cluster designed mosaic benches for the park. Skyline students from the construction cluster then built the mosaic and concrete benches based on the design. Three Dallas ISD schools are among only 26 in Texas nominated for 2016 National Blue Ribbon awards. The School of Health Professions at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center and both the International Academy and Montessori Vanguard at George Bannerman Dealey are finalists. Schools nominated were selected as exemplary high-performing schools based on student performance on state or national assessments. Each school has an economically disadvantaged population that is at least 20 percent. The nominees will undergo a rigorous application process to determine award winners, which will be announced in September. Miguel Solis is a member of the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees representing District 8, which includes Love Field, Northwest Dallas, and Central West Dallas. Trustee Solis has served on the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees since 2013. During this time, he has filled the role of board president and is currently the first vice president.
