Last week, representatives from Dallas ISD, Amazon, and BootUp PD, joined by Texas Sen. Nathan Johnson, surprised four students with $40,000 scholarships during a celebratory computer skills-focused visit to Everette L. DeGolyer Elementary School.  Invited to DeGolyer as Computer Science High School Ambassadors, four high school seniors were surprised to be named Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship recipients. Each scholar will receive $40,000 over four years to pursue a computer science degree at a college of their choice and a paid internship offer at Amazon after their first year of college. The Dallas ISD Social Studies Department is excited to bring field trip opportunities to our students for the 2022-2023 school year. The department’s vision is that all Dallas ISD students think critically, engage civically, and connect globally. Through a partnership with EF Tours (Education First) and Echo Education, the Social Studies Department will provide equitable access to co-curricular programs that enrich students’ learning experiences annually. Tablets or Textbooks? Dallas ISD fifth graders had much to say about this topic at their first debate tournament of the season, where 208 students from 26 elementary schools came together at Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy to argue the advantages and disadvantages of using tablets in schools. The teams of three filled roughly 40 classrooms and simultaneously debated two rounds, one round for the affirmative and another for the negative. Each team member gave one speech and alternated with the opposing team members, ending with a crossfire refutation period that gave them more opportunity to make their case. During…

In the spirit of keeping “Dallas ISD On the Move,” the Health and Physical Education Department encouraged staff, students and families to participate in the 2021 Oncor Kids Race on Saturday, Dec. 11.  This event provided an opportunity to engage Dallas ISD schools in a community activity that was developed to promote the importance of physical fitness and daily physical activity.
