Two new Dallas ISD trustees and one who was re-elected in the May 7 elections were sworn in at the board’s regular meeting on Thursday, May 26. New members are Jaime Resendez, District 4; and Audrey Pinkerton, District 7. Trustee Lew Blackburn of District 5 was re-elected. The board also selected new officers: President, Blackburn; 1st Vice President, Miguel Solis (District 8); 2nd Vice President, Joyce Foreman (District 6); and Secretary, Dan Micciche (District 3). Graduation season kicked off yesterday, and there is plenty to celebrate about this senior class. For starters, Dallas ISD’s graduating class has received more than $104 million in college scholarships. Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School celebrated Senior Signing Day, May 19, 2016. The young ladies announced their college commitments in an assembly held for their family, friends and community. Watch the above video to learn more.
The South Oak Cliff Feeder Pattern hosted their First Annual Elementary Robotics Competition on May 14. Seven of the eight elementary schools within the feeder pattern participated. The teams had to build a robot that was programmed to perform a specific function. The winner was the Longhorn Robotics Team from R.L. Thornton Elementary. The Dallas ISD STEM department contributed the robots and volunteers across the feeder pattern made the event possible.
