Dallas ISD secondary STEM students recently competed in Texas Math & Science Coaches Association State (TMSCA) tournaments, where they took top awards in several categories and were awarded two scholarships. Students from nine high schools traveled to San Antonio in March to compete at the state level in four contests: number sense, mathematics, calculator applications, and science. Esports is going strong for fourth- and fifth-grade students who recently competed in the annual Spring Tournament. Approximately 719 young gamers battled it out at Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy for a total of almost 80 participating district schools. “The energy was high in the auditorium because of the amazing fact that the final Rocket League game for the spring tournament was a rematch between two schools that had the top teams in the fall tournament,” said Angelina Nuno, project manager for Student Activities. More than a thousand magnet school teachers, principals, and administrators have arrived in Dallas for the Magnet Schools of America’s 40th National Conference, hosted by Dallas ISD. From April 18 to 22, Dallas ISD team members are hosting the weeklong conference. Dallas ISD seniors who plan to attend Dallas College in the fall will have exclusive access to getting registered for the next school year. Dallas College will be at nearly 30 high school campuses to help students register for the fall semester by collecting required documentation and assisting in sign-up for classes.
