Adelle Turner Elementary School recently hosted National African American Family Involvement Day (NAAFID), a day that is meant to celebrate and encourage African American families to maintain an active and ongoing role in their child’s academic life. Thanks to a partnership between the University of North Texas at Dallas and Dallas ISD, graduating seniors at three high schools in southern Dallas will receive automatic admission to the university. With seven objective multiple choice tests, two subjective performance events, and an essay, high school teams across Dallas ISD competed in this year’s annual Academic Decathlon Regional Meet at Thomas Jefferson High School in January. Five schools advanced to the State Academic Decathlon Competition by earning top scores in their divisions at the Region VII competition, setting a new Dallas ISD record.
