The Credit Union of Texas has awarded a $20,000 scholarship to Zumwalt Middle School teacher Shareefah Nadir-Mason to help her pursue her doctorate degree. The William H. Cotton Scholarship has been established by Credit Union of Texas (CUTX) to honor the legacy of William H. Cotton for his 43 years of dedication and service to Dallas ISD and the Credit Union of Texas. Mason is originally from New Orleans and moved to Dallas after Hurricane Katrina. Ready, set, read! Join Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings and thousands of other reading warriors for the free Mayor’s Summer Reading Challenge June 3-Aug. 12. The Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) International has awarded Dallas ISD its Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting for having met or exceeded the program’s high standards for financial reporting and accountability. The district was recognized for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ending 2016. Sponsored by VALIC, the Certificate of Excellence (COE) award confirms the school business office’s commitment to financial accountability and transparency.  Recognition through the COE program can help strengthen a district’s presentation for bond issuance statements and promotes high quality financial reporting.

At its May 25 meeting, the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees recognized several student-athletes and their coaches for achievement this year. Marcus Garrett, a senior at Skyline High School, is the 2016-2017 Gatorade Texas Boys Basketball Player of the Year.
