Sydney Gutwein, a seventh‐grade student from William B. Travis Academy/Vanguard for the Talented and Gifted, is among the students being honored by the Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP) for their exceptional scores on the ACT or SAT. Tatum Elementary teacher Carolyn Myers was driving to work when a car crashed into her, flipping her automobile on its side. Sgt. Dewye Jiles, a veteran of the Gulf War and current JROTC instructor at W.W. Samuell High School, came to rescue Myers. See the full story here from CBS DFW.
Dallas County participated in a statewide butterfly release as part of Children’s Mental Health Awareness Month in May. Stigma surrounding mental health issues is a significant barrier preventing children, youth and families from seeking treatment. By releasing butterflies, this symbolizes flight to freedom from stigma. More than 3,000 faux butterflies were released countywide.
