As you may have heard in the news, Dallas ISD expects to see students enrolling in our schools from the Houston area. The Dallas Convention Center has been designated as the major shelter for the city. The students housed at this location will be provided transportation and enrolled in J.F. Kennedy Elementary, A.W. Spence Middle School, or North Dallas High School. The district is now working to secure uniforms, backpacks, and school supplies for the students. Each student in the Dallas Independent School District will receive school supplies, including a notebook, pencil and a Mavs Game voucher, from the Dallas Mavericks and owner Mark Cuban this fall. On Monday, Aug. 28, the first day of school for Dallas ISD, the Mavs ManiAACs, Dancers, Drumline, Champ and MavsMan distributed more than 6,000 school supplies to Skyline High School and Guzick Elementary School to celebrate the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year. Dallas ISD is participating in the Khan Academy’s LearnStorm six-week national learning challenge. Khan Academy is a popular nonprofit online learning site. The window for teachers to sign up for the challenge is now open, and the challenge runs from Sept. 12 to Oct. 20.
