Volunteers from advertising agency Publicis Hawkeye teamed up with Frederick Douglass Elementary School to celebrate Superhero Field Day during the last week of school. The idea was to encourage students to form healthy habits through integrating physical fitness and nutrition into their daily lives. Publicis Hawkeye had more than 25 volunteers for the event and donated T-shirts, water bottles and materials for a cape-making station.

The United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point will provide sessions at select Dallas ISD Leadership Cadet Corps summer camps. Space is limited for USMA’s STEM Camps, with 35-40 spots available at each site. The Credit Union of Texas has awarded a $20,000 scholarship to Zumwalt Middle School teacher Shareefah Nadir-Mason to help her pursue her doctorate degree. The William H. Cotton Scholarship has been established by Credit Union of Texas (CUTX) to honor the legacy of William H. Cotton for his 43 years of dedication and service to Dallas ISD and the Credit Union of Texas. Mason is originally from New Orleans and moved to Dallas after Hurricane Katrina. Ready, set, read! Join Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings and thousands of other reading warriors for the free Mayor’s Summer Reading Challenge June 3-Aug. 12. All ages – including kids and adults – can sign up now (and throughout the summer) at dallaslibrary.org/msrc or in person at any Dallas Library location.
