Tyrese Maxey, a professional NBA player and guard for the Philadelphia 76ers, visited James Madison High School on Thursday to talk to the school’s basketball team about life after high school. The Robotics Education & Competition Foundation (REC) and VEX Robotics, the leading provider of educational and competitive robotics products, recognized Dallas ISD with the 2022 Partner of the Year award. Representatives from the District’s Computer Science & Technology Department accepted the award during the VEX Robotics World Championship opening ceremony on Tuesday, May 10th. More than 20,000 students from 49 states and 36 countries, and their custom-built robots, competed in timed matches at the 2022 VEX Robotics World Championship last week. Stephanie Escobar was a student at Marsh Middle School when the school’s Military Museum was founded by Cpl. David Bates, now an assistant superintendent in Dallas ISD. Fast forward and Escobar is now a Leadership Cadet Corps instructor at the renamed Marsh Preparatory Academy, leading the cadet program and the museum, which recently marked its tenth anniversary. “The military museum is an extension of our classroom,” Escobar said. “Our students consider it a second home, a place to learn about military background and terminology.” Although the museum was not open as frequently as its leaders would have liked this school…

Families are invited to join Dallas ISD’s Language, Literacy, and Social Studies Department  (LLSS) for the annual Read for Me event in collaboration with Mayor Eric Johnson’s SMART Summer Reading Kickoff Celebration on Saturday, June 4, 2022.
