There was much to celebrate at College Signing Day at the Judge Barefoot Sanders Law Magnet at Townview on Friday, May 13. The school jumped 11 spots in the most recent US News and World Report high school rankings, making the Law Magnet the 48th best public high school in the nation with a rank of sixth in the State.  Principal Garet Feimster referenced the honor during his remarks and told his seniors and their families, “This is your accomplishment. Tyrese Maxey, a professional NBA player and guard for the Philadelphia 76ers, visited James Madison High School on Thursday to talk to the school’s basketball team about life after high school. Maxey surprised the Madison Trojans, who won the UIL 3A Basketball State Championship in March, during their school day. “It’s always cool to go back and talk to younger kids whenever you have the opportunity, and to try to be an inspiration when possible,” Maxey said. “I know that NBA players coming back and talking to me was a really good thing. The Robotics Education & Competition Foundation (REC) and VEX Robotics, the leading provider of educational and competitive robotics products, recognized Dallas ISD with the 2022 Partner of the Year award. Representatives from the District’s Computer Science & Technology Department accepted the award during the VEX Robotics World Championship opening ceremony on Tuesday, May 10th. More than 20,000 students from 49 states and 36 countries, and their custom-built robots, competed in timed matches at the 2022 VEX Robotics World Championship last week. Stephanie Escobar was a student at Marsh Middle School when the school’s Military Museum was founded by Cpl. David Bates, now an assistant superintendent in Dallas ISD. Fast forward and Escobar is now a Leadership Cadet Corps instructor at the renamed Marsh Preparatory Academy, leading the cadet program and the museum, which recently marked its tenth anniversary. “The military museum is an extension of our classroom,” Escobar said. “Our students consider it a second home, a place to learn about military background and terminology.” Although the museum was not open as frequently as its leaders would have liked this school…
