Two tournaments, two Saturdays, and one school filled with excitement and suspense as almost 2,000 Dallas ISD elementary and secondary students competed against each other in the fall chess tournaments hosted by the Student Activities department at Obama Male Leadership Academy. The secondary chess tournament on Oct. 29 kicked off the first of two Saturday tournaments with 665 students from 72 middle and high school campuses ready to play the strategy game of chess. The South Oak Cliff Golden Bears are the only Dallas ISD football team still standing in the UIL Football Playoffs. In the Regional Semifinals of the UIL Football Playoffs, the reigning champs defeated the Midlothian Heritage Jaguars by a score of 33-27 to advance to the 5A Division II Region II Quarterfinals. In an effort to expand access to high-quality preschool programs, Dallas ISD’s Early Learning department is granting endowments to pre-k partners who serve Dallas ISD students.
