In celebration of Halloween, the community of Anne Frank Elementary School united in one of the most creative events under the stars for the annual Trunk or Treat event. Twelve-year-old special guest Nashville singer Taylor Gayle opened the ceremony with an original song inspiring young students to write their own music. A hundred princesses and superheroes danced enthusiastically around her, eagerly awaiting the opening of the gates to the Trunk-or-Treat lot. Students at the Rosemont Schools are on the move. The Rosemont Schools have launched a new “Kids on the Move” healthy kids initiative in partnership with the Cooper Institute. The mission of “Kids on the Move” is simple: promote lifelong health and wellness focused on school-aged children and their families. As part of the “Kids on the Move” activities, some Rosemont families have been gathering on the weekend to go on Sunday Family Fun Walks. The United Way Metropolitan of Dallas and several businesses teamed up with Dallas ISD to celebrate Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, or STEM for short. E. B. Comstock Middle School hosted this spectacular event, with more than 75 volunteers setting up six different stations that peaked the students’ interest in a variety of STEM subjects. The experiments ranged from the Balloon Brain Wonder Kit to Catapult Science. “This is very important that we pique our students’ interest into the STEM vocations,” Comstock Middle School Principal Willie Johnson said.

Students from the Pinkston Prep Collegiate Academy participated in a service learning and network/leadership building project at Art Walk West. The West Dallas Chamber of Commerce sponsored the event. Two Pinkston Prep advisory board members, Shawn Scott and Richard Mauldin, currently serve as chamber board members. The students were in charge of the Fabrication Yard, which is a graffiti friendly zone in West Dallas. Students passed out flyers, water, paint, and cleaned up after the artists.
