About 30 employees from Universal McCann, an advertising agency, spent a recent day beautifying T.J. Rusk Middle School by painting inspirational quotes, a school crest, and more. Rusk Middle School Principal Juan Cordoba thanked Universal McCann for their support of the campus. “Thanks to their help, our school will have a fresh and inspiring new look when students return in August,” Cordoba said. Members of Everette L. DeGolyer Elementary School’s Class of 1967 recently reunited at the campus to recreate their sixth-grade class photo. “These alumni have great stories of DeGolyer’s impact on their school careers and how it shaped their lives as adults,” DeGolyer Elementary Principal Tara Mays said. “ All have fond memories and have helped impress upon me the reality of an elementary school’s duty to our scholars to be a loving, nurturing, and inclusive community. These wonderful people have become donors, friends, and even members of an annual football game each year.”
The Mayor’s Back to School Fair is Friday, Aug. 4, at the Centennial Building at Fair Park, and the event will once again provide a one-stop-shop complete with all the back-to-school basics. As part of Capital One’s Future Edge DFW initiative, Capital One teamed up with NAF and the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) for the NAF Future Ready Lab pilot, an innovative internship concept designed to scale the quantity of meaningful internship experiences. The program gave 20 Dallas ISD high school students in NAF academies the opportunity to prepare for future careers. The internships lasted June 12–30. During this time, they developed ready-to-execute concepts for a large-scale community event for Capital One to organize in the local market later in the year.
