Members of Dallas ISD’s early learning team, staff, and volunteers took to the streets on Thursday, March 29, to let people know in person about available pre-K opportunities in the district. Pre-K registration starts Monday, April 2. The teams went door-to-door in Dallas neighborhoods to tell residents about the critical importance of high quality pre-K, and how the district next year is expanding both tuition-based and pre-K for 3-year-olds Dallas ISD offers pre-K for free to qualifying families. Three projects from 20 Dallas ISD high schools participating in the Aspen Challenge have emerged as winners and will compete against others from Philadelphia – this year’s other partner city – in June at the Aspen Ideas Festival in Aspen, Colo. Nine Dallas ISD National Academy Foundation academies have achieved special designations this year from NAF among nearly 200 others recognized across the country. There were more than 100 “Model” schools determined by NAF’s annual assessment. That designation recognizes academies that deliver high-quality educational experiences. Sixty-nine academies in the network reached the “Distinguished” level, which is the network’s highest level of achievement. 2018 Distinguished academies include: W.H. Nearly 1,000 Dallas ISD students with special needs enjoyed a local track and field competition to prepare for the Area 10 Special Olympics Competition. The Dallas ISD Adapted Physical Education hosted the competitions throughout the week. “These events build our kids’ social skills, sportsmanship, self esteem and positive attitude,” said Kelli Hackney with the Adaptive PE Department. The events included track events such as relay races and field events such as long jump and tennis ball throw. The students later this year will participate in an area competition with other district such as Garland ISD, Grand Prairie ISD and Waxahachie ISD.…
