After a tornado impacted the Northwest Dallas community, a Dallas ISD teacher went door-to-door to local businesses seeking a helping hand. Jose Armendariz works as a bilingual kindergarten teacher at Pershing Elementary. His persistence resulted in a school supply donation worth more than $30,000. Pershing was among three schools that sustained damage and were temporarily relocated to Loos Field House. Dallas ISD’s Food and Child Nutrition Services Department will offer students free meals during the Thanksgiving break, from Nov. 25–Nov. 27, at select locations. The effort is to ensure students have access to nutritious meals even during breaks from school. Participating schools throughout the district will be serving morning snack from 9–9:30 a.m. and lunch from 12:30 p.m.–1 p.m. For a list of participating schools, go here. Thanksgiving Break Meals are free to all children and youth through age 18. Educational and enrichment activities will be available for all participants.

More than 100 parents attended the Nov. 16 Dallas ISD Fam Jam event at Spruce High School, NBC 5 reports. Dallas ISD Stories is a new Hub series where district students, teachers and staff share their own stories. My ultimate goal is to go to medical school and become a cardiac surgeon or cardiologist, so I love getting a head start at the School of Health Professions.
