Score a book! Dallas Stars Foundation adds 4 book vending machines to Dallas ISD

The Dallas Stars Foundation made a profound contribution to the Dallas Education Foundation and Dallas ISD by supporting four book vending machines at Charles Rice Learning Center, Joseph J. Rhoads Learning Center, Thomas L. Marsalis Elementary STEAM Academy, and Adelle Turner Elementary School.  

Having access to free books written in students’ native language helps to foster a love of books because students can see themselves in the characters and imagine what it would be like to be in their shoes.The vending machines not only encourage a love for reading, but also bring families together. Students can take the books home to share with their siblings, parents, and caregivers.

“We want everyone to support the Dallas Education Foundation. They do a great job of getting our schools what they need,” said Tonya Shelton, Associate Superintendent of Region IV.

The unveiling ceremony at Charles Rice Learning Center was unforgettable, as Victor E. Green, the green alien mascot for the Dallas Stars, came to the campus to greet the kids and celebrate the new book vending machine. 

“We want to do everything we can to support the educational endeavors of our kids,” said Brad Alberts, president and CEO of the Dallas Stars.
