Dallas ISD unveils weekly themes for 2024 Attendance Awareness Month

Dallas ISD is celebrating Attendance Awareness Month in September - promoting strong, consistent attendance habits that will set students up for success at all grade levels. 

The theme for the 2024-2025 school year is “Show up! Attendance Matters.”

The Graduation, Recovery, Attendance/Advocacy and Dropout Intervention department is hosting weekly kickoffs for students and team members to help build routines, increase engagement, provide access to resources, and support learning.

“We would like every student to succeed in school by building good attendance habits. When students and parents know how important good school attendance is, then our district has a better opportunity to reduce chronic absenteeism,” said Sally Salinas, GRAAD department specialist III truant officer. “We want students to be in school every day that school is in session because research has shown that good attendance is related to improved achievement for students.”

Weekly kickoffs

Each Wednesday throughout the month, central office and campus team members are encouraged to participate in weekly attendance awareness dress-up days. 

The theme for every week can be found below.

Week 1, Sept. 4: Back to the Future with Great Attendance

Time to dress up as your favorite decade: '70s, '80s, '90s.

Week 2, Sept. 11: Mix & Match Day

Learning can be fun, so mix it up and Make it Happen. Wear stripes or polka dots.

Week 3, Sept. 18: Attendance Olympics: Go for the Gold with Great Attendance

Show your pride! Represent your favorite country, or wear gold/yellow, silver/gray, or bronze/brown.

Week 4, Sept. 25: Be Present. Be Powerful

Dress up as your future career or wear your favorite college gear.
