Dallas ISD celebrates School Board Recognition Month

January is School Board Recognition Month, and Dallas ISD is honoring all nine trustees for their dedication and commitment to the district and its students.
The theme this year is “leadership for tomorrow’s Texas,” which exemplifies the critical role our school trustees have in shaping the future of our communities. School board members help connect educational opportunities for our students and the state’s future workforce.
Rolinda Schmidt, president of the Texas Association of School Boards, credited the value and importance of trustees for their honorable service in leading the state's 5.5 million public school children.
“Their strong local governance, and partnership with parents and teachers, is the foundation for ensuring our students have the skills and experiences they need to help build tomorrow’s Texas,” she said.
Under Dallas ISD Board of Trustee leadership, district elementary and middle schools received top rankings in recent reports from the U.S. News & World Report, received the highest bond rating of a AAA from Kroll Bond Rating Agency, and was awarded the District of Distinction Award from the Texas Art Education Association.
The trustees are as follows:
- President Joe Carreón, District 8 (Northwest Dallas, Love Field, and parts of East and West Dallas)
- 1st Vice President, Ben Mackey, District 7 (North Central Oak Cliff, Cockrell Hill, and parts of West Dallas)
- 2nd Vice President, Maxie Johnson, District 5 (Oak Lawn, West Dallas, Wilmer, Hutchins and portions of East Oak Cliff)
- Secretary, Camile D. White, District 4 (Parts of Southeast Dallas, Pleasant Grove, Balch Springs, and Seagoville)
- Lance Currie, District 1 (Northwest Dallas, including North Dallas, Addison, parts of Carrollton and Farmers Branch)
- Sarah Weinberg, District 2 (North and Near East Dallas)
- Dan Micciche, District 3 (Northeast Dallas)
- Joyce Foreman, District 6 (Southwest Dallas)
- Ed Turner, District 9 (South Dallas and parts of Downtown Dallas, Pleasant Grove, Deep Ellum, Uptown, and East Dallas)
