Seagoville P-TECH student's business plan nets top honor at Biz Camp

Seagoville P-TECH student's business plan nets top honor at Biz Camp
The Hub

Amari DeFrance, a student at Dallas ISD’s Seagoville P-TECH, won the top prize at the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship  Biz Camp this summer.

She was the first participant from Texas to compete in the Biz Camp summer program. Students create business ideas and work to complete a business plan. Amari’s plan took first among all Biz Camp students in the United States, and netted her a $1,000 prize. She will present her plan for "Amari’s City of Scrub" at the NFTE National Business Competition in October in New York City.

NFTE is an industry partner with Seagoville P-TECH. The organization’s mission is to provide programs that inspire children from low-income communities to stay in school, recognize business opportunities and to plan for future success.

About to begin its second year, Seagoville’s P-TECH (Pathways to Technology Early College High School) offers students a chance to earn up to 60 college hours or an Associate’s Degree of Applied Science as they earn their high school diplomas. The program offers pathways and degree plans including: Business Administration/Management, IT/Computer Information Technology; Network Administration; and IT/Software Programming.
