Schools honored for AP accomplishments

Eleven district schools were recognized by the O’Donnell Foundation and Texas Instruments for meeting 2014 AP goals set by the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI) in AP English, AP math and AP science.

The schools were recognized recently at the districtwide AP Kickoff conducted at Emmett J. Conrad High School to celebrate the accomplishments of the AP program and honor the students, teachers and campuses for making strides in the area of advanced placement.

The eleven schools are:

• Trinidad “Trini” Garza Early College High School
• Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy
• Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School
• School of Science and Engineering at Townview
• School for the Talented and Gifted at Townview
• Rosie Sorrells School of Education and Social Services at Townview
• H. Grady Spruce High School
• Sunset High School
• Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts
• W.T. White High School
• Woodrow Wilson High School

The program seeks to increase the number of students taking AP courses and exams and increase the number of students passing the exams with a score of 3, 4, or 5.

The O’Donnell Foundation and Texas Instruments offers incentives to students, teachers and campuses for achieving the goals set by NMSI. The funding also assists with instructional support and teacher mentoring, AP exam fees and prep sessions.

The College Board is expected to release the districtwide data in October.
