New Facebook page “en Español” to increase community outreach

New Facebook page “en Español” to increase community outreach
News and Information

More than 70 percent of Dallas ISD students are Latinos, and almost half of this population come from homes where the primary language spoken is Spanish.  That is why Dallas ISD is leading the way among Texas school districts in expanding its outreach to the Spanish-speaking community through social media by launching Facebook/DallasISD_español, its new Spanish Facebook page.

That is why Dallas ISD has launched Facebook/DallasISD_español, an effort to expand the district’s outreach to the Spanish-speaking community. More than 70 percent of Dallas ISD students are Latinos, and almost half of this population come from homes where the primary language is Spanish.

The DallasISD_español Facebook page will include up-to-date information on the district such as school closings, upcoming events and activities at the schools. More important, the page will include information about the different academic programs, tips and information, videos on how parents can better guide their children, and how to navigate the public education system in the US.

Engaging the community plays a big role as part of Destination 2020, Dallas ISD’s strategic plan, to raise student achievement for all students.

“It is our responsibility to find ways to engage this important part of our community,” said Superintendent Mike Miles. “We also know that this community is highly mobile, and a large number of parents obtain their information via Facebook.”

Facebook/DallasISD español can be accessed via www.DallasISD.org/espanol website at the bottom of the page. Parents and the Spanish-speaking community are invited to send comments or ask questions regarding education in Dallas ISD.
