Gifted and talented teachers spotlight student projects for G/T Awareness Week

Dallas ISD’s gifted/talented teachers spotlight their student projects for G/T Awareness Week held April 4–10. G/T Awareness Week was created to increase awareness and encourage support of gifted education in Texas.

Dallas ISD students have been working hard all year to complete a rigorous project based learning curriculum.  Their projects include research, product creation, writing compositions, and presentations of their works. Even in the midst of this impromptu instruction and learning from home mandate, our innovative G/T teachers are stepping to the challenge with innovation and compassion.

“The students are worth it, I have learned a lot about web design and each moment like that, and moments with [my students] are teaching me as much as I am teaching them: we are all going to get better at this 'Stay-at-Homeschooling' as we go along," said Jennifer Baldwin, G/T teacher at Anne Frank Elementary School.

While the modes and operations may have changed, the philosophy remains; to further enrich these gifted minds by any means necessary.

"The nature of all children is the desire to connect," Baldwin said. "Gifted and Talented students yearn not only for connections to their like-minded peers, but also for extended avenues of learning, such is the nature and needs/social and emotional state of the gifted.”
