Community invited to screening of HBO film about domestic violence

It can be challenging to wrap your head around the complex issue of domestic violence — why perpetrators batter their partners, why some victims remain in violent relationships and what society can do to address the issue. Experts agree that education is key to helping reduce the incidence of domestic violence.

The Dallas community is invited to learn more about the subject at a screening of the HBO documentary Private Violence, sponsored by the City of Dallas Domestic Violence Taskforce, Dallas ISD and more than a dozen partner organizations. The screening is being conducted in October in observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The free screening is set for 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 6, at the Dallas City Performance Hall, 2520 Flora St., in downtown Dallas. There are a limited number of tickets available, and district staff and community members are asked to RSVP to attend. The Eventbrite link has details about the film and parking information.

Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings and members of the city’s Domestic Violence Taskforce are expected to attend the screening, which will be followed with an audience discussion and Qamp;A.
