Car auction commentator inspires automotive students at Adamson High School

Students in Adamson High School’s automotive technology program enjoyed a special guest speaker this week: John Kraman, the commentator for Mecum Auction’s TV broadcasts.

Kraman talked with auto tech students about the collector car market and opportunities for students to apply their skills within the industry.

“With your knowledge and passion, you have a huge step up on your peers if you start looking for jobs in the automotive industry after you graduate,” Kraman said. “I commend you for taking the initiative. There are not enough students out there like you.”

Kraman was in town as part of the Mecum Car Auction being held at Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center Oct. 3–6. The car auction donated tickets to students attending Dallas ISD auto tech programs so they could get a first-hand look at one of the world’s largest collector car auctions.

“We are fortunate to have John Kraman of Mecum, one of the most respected voices in the collector car industry, address our students," said Tom Hayden of Dallas ISD's Strategic Initiatives and External Relations. "For many years, Mecum has been a wonderful supporter of Dallas ISD."

The goal of the Dallas ISD’s auto tech program is for students to obtain the applicable knowledge to become entry-level technicians. In addition to operating tools, equipment and being able to diagnose basic issues, the students also achieve various industry certifications that they can build on once they enter their automotive or logistics career.
