Automotive students rev up at Mecum car collector auction

Students and teachers from automotive programs at five Dallas ISD high schools got revved up at Mecum Dallas 2016, one of the world’s largest collector car auctions.

The 250 students and teachers also met with Dave Magers, the CEO of Mecum Auctions, as well as various consignors to learn about the collector car industry, the restoration of collector cars, and also the career opportunities for auto-tech students.

Mecum Auctions donated tickets so the students to attend.

Nancy, a junior in Spruce High School’s auto collision repair and refinishing program, said her Dallas ISD classes have given her a great appreciation and knowledge of cars.

“I’ve learned how cars work and how they can be prepared, so I’m in awe of everything I see here (at Mecum Dallas 2016),” Nancy said.

Tom Hayden of Dallas ISD’s Volunteer and Partnership Services thanked Mecum for the opportunity to see the amazing cars up close.

“The partnership with Mecum Collector Car Auctions and the Dallas ISD automotive programs insures that our students are exposed to the many facets and career paths of the automotive industry,” Hayden said. “We are grateful for this outstanding partnership.”
