Marketing Services is responsible for communicating internally to more than 20,000 Dallas ISD employees and externally with the greater Dallas community through publications, marketing and advertising, e-newsletters, social media and photography.

On Friday, Nov. 14, special guests volunteered to read to students across Dallas ISD during a JFK Day of Service Celebration/Veterans Day Literacy Event. The effort was part of Dallas Reads, a language and literacy initiative of the district. The purpose was to highlight the importance of literacy and public service as well as to honor community heroes such as veterans, police, firefighters and others. The day also gave the opportunity for high-school students to earn community service hours by reading to elementary students. Approximately 100 students from Billy Earl Dade Middle School sharpened their leadership skills and received encouragement during the inaugural Dade Leadership Academy gathering on Nov. 13 at the Hulcy school campus. The goal of the project is to build a stronger cohort of student leaders that can serve as mentors and help positively influence their peers. Campus counselors identified students to attend the workshop based on their current outcomes. One-half of the students are among those with the best attendance, behavior and grades. Nakia Douglas, principal of Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy, was recently recognized at a special reception honoring Dallas ISD’s top principals. This year as part of the district’s new pay for performance initiative, Douglas was one of 184 principals who received an increase in pay under the new system that is based on a combination of performance measures and student achievement results. With the new compensation plan, the higher the principal effectiveness, the higher the salary. On average, principals received a $9,164 increase in pay. The average salary for the 2014-2015 school year is $100,300 up from $91,136 in the 2013-2014 school…

 The Green Team after-school recycling club at Skyline High School makes schoolwide recycling look easy. On Wednesdays, the club’s 100 students flock into the cafeteria for their weekly meeting, huddle with their team captains for a quick check-in and then fan out into the hallways of the district’s largest school, with oversized rolling bins, stopping in classrooms to collect used office paper, plastics, soda cans, juice containers and other recyclables.
