The recent senseless tragedy in Georgia where individuals of Asian descent were targeted and killed raises the question, why is this happening and what will it take to stop the violence and hate. While Atlanta is hundreds of miles away, families in our area are still concerned. Dallas County Elections Administrator Michael Scarpello reminds eligible voters that the registration deadline for the Saturday, May 1, 2021 Joint Election is Thursday, April 1, 2021. Representatives from several Dallas ISD departments will be on site at H. Grady Spruce High School to speak with families and answer questions on Wednesday, March 24. Dallas ISD will build on the success as the highest achieving urban district in Texas for English learners by upgrading its dual language program. A survey of about 60,000 Dallas ISD students in grades 3–12 shows promising results that the district’s comprehensive efforts to focus on social and emotional learning is paying off. In three out of four categories, district students report having a more positive view than the average national student in areas such as social awareness and supportive relationships. Dallas ISD adopted an SEL policy in 2016. From respect agreements and weekly lessons to family engagement, SEL practices are built into instruction throughout the day. Spring is here again, and Dallas ISD is excited to offer Spring Break Meals to all children 18 years and under!  Twenty-two schools were strategically selected so that every student would have a school nearby to pick up meals. Schools will be open on Monday, March 15, from 11:00 am.–4:00 p.m., or until supplies last.  Schools will provide a week’s worth of meals valued at $80 per child.  Meals will include: seven breakfasts, seven lunches, five suppers and five snacks. Roger B. Brown fue una leyenda en la comunidad deportiva y de béisbol del Dallas ISD que dio su consejo a los jugadores y entrenadores después de los partidos, invitó a cazatalentos que observaron a los jugadores del distrito para reclutarlos en equipos universitarios y ayudó de incontables maneras más.
