At the March 23 board meeting, Dallas ISD’s Board of Trustees approved the full-day Pre-K tuition rate of $5,000 per year, per child ($500 per month) and half-day Pre-K tuition rate of $2,500 per year, per child ($250 per month) for the Pre-K tuition-based program. The tuition-based before and after-care program rate was approved at $1,250 per year, per child. These tuition-based programs are for three- and four-year-old children not eligible for free Pre-K. To raise awareness of the importance of breakfast, Dallas ISD will celebrate School Breakfast Week (SBW) from March 6 through 10. All families are encouraged to take advantage of the healthy breakfast choices available at all Dallas ISD school cafeterias.  Busy weekday mornings make it a challenge for many families to find time for a healthy breakfast. Sixth, seventh and eighth graders at Kennedy-Curry Middle School experienced a taste of the UniverSoul Circus in their school gymnasium. Thanks to a generous donation from Council Member Tennell Atkins, Kennedy-Curry received a sneak peak of several circus acts. UniverSoul Circus is a highly interactive combination of circus arts, theater, and music. School libraries are meant to connect students to information, typically through written literature. The team at the School for the Talented and Gifted in Pleasant Grove (STAG) is enhancing that notion during Black History Month by transforming their library into a pop-up museum. Photos, artifacts, mementos and pieces of history are on display for students to experience during the month of February. Each display depicts an important era in Black history and culture.  The idea for the museum originated from STAG team members who visited the Green Book Exhibition in Irving earlier this year. Thanks to a partnership between the University of North Texas at Dallas and Dallas ISD, graduating seniors at three high schools in southern Dallas will receive automatic admission to the university. The highly acclaimed work, “Bodies as Site of Faith and Protest,” is available as a virtual matinee performance for every student and grade level in Dallas ISD for free.
