Since the very beginning of South Oak Cliff’s football season, Head Coach Jason Todd has preached that the team was taking it one game at a time, never looking ahead. The journey has been one of not just wins and losses but hard work and resilience as well.
As the final whistle blew Saturday in the UIL 5A Division 2 State Championship game, signaling a 17-20 victory for the Port Neches-Groves Indians, the Golden Bears held their heads high, taking in the crowd’s appreciation.
The Marsalis Boyz know they have made history for Dallas ISD and the city. They have been a beacon of joy and hope in their community. And they are the only team in the district to win back-to-back state titles and make it to the state championship for three consecutive years, earning a host of other accolades along the way.
“It means a lot to the kids to have the support of the community, and we want to keep this going as long as we can,” Todd said.
Dallas ISD and the entire city of Dallas are so proud of what the Golden Bears have been able to accomplish this season and can’t wait to see what’s in store for the coming years.
