Research and advocacy nonprofit, CHILDREN AT RISK, recognized several Dallas ISD schools as the Dallas and Fort Worth area’s top high, middle and elementary schools.
CHILDREN AT RISK ranks all Texas elementary and middle schools across three main areas, and all high schools across four main areas:
Student Achievement – how students do on state standardized tests (STAAR)
Campus Performance – how a school compares in test scores to schools with similar levels of poverty
Student Growth – how students improve on their STAAR tests in a school year
College Readiness – how many high school students are graduating on time and participating in other college-readiness activities
The Gold Ribbon sub-lists is defined by CHILDREN AT RISK as high-performing, high-poverty schools that are traditional neighborhood campuses; magnet schools and charter schools are not included in the Gold Ribbon sub-lists. High-poverty schools are identified as more than 75% economically disadvantaged campuses.
“One of the biggest things that makes us one of the best schools in the [Dallas–Fort Worth] Metroplex is that we pride ourselves in serving Dallas ISD students by being a magnet school. Over 93% of our current freshman class attended middle schools in the district and that is up from 75% the year before. An amazing fact is that many of those students come from our neighborhood schools, and goes to show Dallas ISD’s commitment to excellence extends across our district. We are proud to build on the foundation that the district has established for us,” Arnoldo Zuñiga, School for the Talented and Gifted at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center principal said.
CHILDREN AT RISK ranks Texas public schools to help parents, educators and community members better understand how their local schools are performing and spark dialogue on the quality of public education across Texas.
“We believe that a strong social-emotional program allows us to not only build trust with students, but also for them to develop their social skills. Dreams are good, but results are better and we strive to support the vision of our district to become the premier urban district in the nation,” Dr. Reymundo Cervantes-Guajardo, principal of School for the Talented and Gifted in Pleasant Grove said.
