Bond 2020 kicks off with school design charettes for new replacement schools

Dallas ISD Bond and Construction is launching the Bond 2020 program with virtual design charettes for 11 new replacements schools.

On November 3, voters approved Proposition A, which provided $3.2 billion to fund repairs and upgrades to more than 200 of the district’s 230 campuses.  The proposition also includes funding for replacement schools for:

  • W.H. Atwell Law Academy
  • Dallas Environmental Science Academy
  • Henry W. Longfellow Career Exploration Academy
  • Everette DeGolyer Elementary
  • Geneva Heights Elementary
  • Martha Turner Reilly Elementary
  • John Quincy Adams Elementary
  • Herbert Marcus Elementary
  • George Peabody Elementary
  • Lenore Kirk Hall Elementary.

School staff, parents, and community stakeholders are invited to help design these new schools by participating in School Design Charettes.  Stakeholders will gather virtually to share their ideas and aspirations for each new school. The workshops will include online facilitated small group discussions, surveys, and polls.

“This is a unique opportunity for Dallas ISD to listen to the community and for stakeholders to participate in the conceptual design of new schools across Dallas ISD,” says Brent Alfred,  Deputy Chief of Construction Services.  “We are encouraging stakeholders to THINK BIGBold, Innovative, and Generational – to help the project team create campuses that meet the current and future needs of 21st-century learners.”

Alfred said the charettes are a best practice from the 2015 bond projects, where they were well received.

“We recognize the importance of getting community input early in the design phase so that we are better able to meet and exceed expectations throughout the design and construction process,” he said..

Following the School Design Charettes, virtual community meetings will be scheduled where initial designs will be shared by the project and design team for additional feedback from the community. Don’t miss the opportunity to help design your new neighborhood school.
