Dallas ISD student takes first place at UIL Computer Science competition

Sam Hooper, one of Dallas ISD’s seven students participating in this year’s UIL Academic State Meet, won first place in the 4A Computer Science category. The student at School for the Talented and Gifted at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center was also part of the school’s Computer Science Team, which won first place at state.

Dallas ISD had seven students who qualified to compete at the UIL Academic State Meet that happened April 30 and May 1.

Students who placed in the top three spots at the 4A & 5A UIL Academic Regional Meets  qualified for the state competition and scholarship opportunities. The Academic State Meet will be held at hub sites located across the state. Schools have to select the hub within their Education Service Center Region or one closest to the school.

  • Third Place – Current Issues: Victoria Fasakin, TAG
  • First Place – Computer Science: Sam Hooper, TAG
  • Second Place – Computer Science: Vedant Tapiavala, TAG
  • Second Place – Lincoln Douglas Debate: Avery Lambert, TAG
  • Third Place – Spelling & Vocabulary: Grace Ling, TAG
  • Third Place – Mathematics: Maanas Sharma, SEM
  • First Place – Spelling & Vocabulary: Nerverna Cail, CityLab
