Even with the learning challenges caused by the pandemic, data shows that students who attend Dallas ISD pre-K outperform students who do not attend district pre-K.

The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted student learning across the board this school year. However, data shows that kindergarten students who attended district pre-k last year are now scoring higher in reading and vocabulary assessments than students who didn’t attend pre-K. District officials briefed trustees on the pre-K gains during the March 11 board briefing.

“When students come through our pre-K program, they are set up for better success in the future,” said Elena Hill, assistant superintendent for early learning. “It’s encouraging to see the benefits our pre-K program is having on our youngest learners.”

The Dallas ISD pre-K enrollment period kicks off in early April.
