South Oak Cliff High School steps up to help register families for the Covid-19 vaccine

South Oak Cliff High School has been stepping up to help register families for the Covid-19 vaccination.

From March 1–5, SOC helped parents and community members register for the vaccine in the school’s Frito Lay Resource Center.

“We want you to be immunized. It’s important to us because the area around us  in 75216 and surrounding zip codes has been disproportionately affected with Covid-19 infections,” SOC Principal Willie F. Johnson Jr. said. “We want to be a resource for you, so you don’t have to go downtown and fight those long lines. You can come here, inside Oak Cliff, and we’re going to support you in any fashion that we can.”

Attendees filled the registration form by hand or electronically in the computers at the Frito Lay Resource Center.

The supply of the COVID-19 vaccine remains limited at this time, according to DCHHS. Currently, only individuals in 1A and 1B are eligible to receive the vaccine at this time according to the State of Texas.

In preparation for the receipt of future vaccine, DCHHS is opening registration to all individuals regardless of what eligibility criteria they fall within.

What happens after I register?

Dallas County provides a list of eligible registrants to various State vaccine hub providers. You may be contacted by one of the other State hubs to schedule your vaccine appointment, based on vaccine eligibility and supply. Each of those entities uses their own system to schedule appointments. For example, if you receive notice to schedule an appointment by the City of Dallas, they have their own scheduling system that is separate and unique from Dallas County’s. Most entities are scheduling appointments and are not taking walk-ups. If you are not contacted directly by one of these entities, and instead you receive a link from a friend or family member, you likely do not have a valid appointment and will not be given a shot.

For questions about appointments from DCHHS through Luminare or vaccinations at Fair Park, please call the DCHHS COVID Hotline at 972-692-2780 or email CovidVaccine@DallasCounty.org
