Farrow-Gillespie Heath Witter LLP proudly announced the formation of The Liza Farrow-Gillespie Intrepid Young Woman Scholarship. The law firm is honored to confirm that Jim Thompson, long-time friend and client of Liza Farrow-Gillespie, is the lead donor to the Liza Farrow-Gillespie Intrepid Young Woman Scholarship to be awarded annually to a young woman graduate of the Dallas ISD Barefoot Sanders Law Magnet.

The scholarship is given in Liza’s honor to a girl who embodies Liza’s “do anything, go anywhere” spirit. The donor intends this scholarship to be a fair wind in the recipient’s sail and to encourage the young woman to emulate Liza’s amazing life.

Liza Farrow-Gillespie lived life fearlessly. She serenaded Hollywood as a professional musician and singer. She toured with bands and recording artists. She circumnavigated the globe on a 54-foot sailboat and triumphed over storms, whether they be monsoons or actual pirates. She published a book that archives her infinite heart and humor. She clerked with the late Honorable Barefoot Sanders and at 54 years old, Liza co-founded one of the only woman-owned law firms in Dallas, proving anything can be done no matter the age. She fought cancer. She knocked it out. It came back for a round two. Even in loss, Liza remained fearless.

“We are privileged to honor Liza’s memory in this way,” says Dallas Education Foundation executive director, Mita Havlick “And, we are grateful to Mr. Jim Thompson for his generous donation to form the scholarship fund and to Farrow-Gillespie Heath Witter LLP for working with us to make this vision a reality. The life of a young woman at our Dallas ISD Law Magnet will forever be impacted with this scholarship.”

Law Magnet Principal Garet Feimster agrees, “I can tell you with confidence that in this graduation class alone we have four or five young women to be this sort of contributor that Liza Farrow-Gillespie was in the city of Dallas.”

Farrow-Gillespie Heath Witter LLP and DEF want the scholarship winners to voyage on, as Liza did. Tax-free donations for this scholarship can be made to the Dallas Education Foundation at https://futureofdallas.org/donate indicating “Liza Gillespie” in the Tribute.
