On Thursday night, the North Dallas High School football team will face off in its first playoff game since 1952 when they take on the top-ranked team in the state: Argyle High School.
The Bulldogs haven’t taken a traditional route to the playoffs. But regardless of the journey, Coach Bobby Estes and his team are practicing hard and ready for this shot against a football powerhouse.
“The journey this year isn’t what we expected, but it’s been a great allegory for life,” Estes said. “The kids have been resilient and faced this year with perseverance. As a result, they have come out the other side.”
Prior to joining North Dallas High School, Estes was the longtime athletic director and head football coach at Woodrow Wilson High School. To recognize his work leading the Bulldogs, the Dallas Cowboys and Whataburger this month named Estes a Coach of the Week honoree. The recognition came with a $2,000 grant for the school football program courtesy of the Gene and Jerry Jones Family Foundation and Whataburger.
Regardless of if they win or lose, Estes said the playoff game will have a big impact on the team and players.
“We get an opportunity to match the intensity of one of the best high school football teams around. We get an opportunity to learn from this,” Estes said. “And I tell the players: this will be a moment you remember for the rest of your lives.”
The North Dallas High School and Argyle matchup is happening 7 p.m. at Argyle Eagle Stadium, 191 US Hwy 377, in Argyle, Texas. Go here for tickets.
