A tradition of generous support from PNC to support high quality early childhood education continues by way of a $30,000 donation from the PNC Foundation to the Dallas Education Foundation, Dallas ISD’s nonprofit philanthropic arm. This grant from PNC will help purchase distance learning technology for the district’s youngest learners, while traditional school and the summer months keep kids out of pre-K and early grade classrooms.

Dallas Education Foundation Executive Director Mita Havlick said the $30,000 grant from PNC will have a substantial impact on those whose needs are significant.

“We are incredibly grateful to PNC for their continued commitment to our Dallas ISD students. As a leading early learning partner, PNC supports our youngest learners, and as a community partner, PNC actively seeks ways to serve the district beyond early childhood education,” said Havlick.

Shortly after tornadoes ripped through the Metroplex in October 2019, PNC donated $50,000 to support one of the district’s heavily damaged schools, Burnet Elementary School. In addition to this generous gift, PNC provided the school with iPads, copy paper, dry erase markers and other essential items.

“Since 2004, PNC has been dedicated to high quality early learning through PNC Grow Up Great®, our bilingual $500 million initiative that helps prepare children from birth to age 5 for success in school and life,” said Brendan McGuire, PNC regional president for North Texas. “The opportunity to support DISD, one of Texas’ largest urban school districts, as they innovate around educating our youngest children, is critical to this work and ensuring successful educational outcomes for Dallas’s children and families.”

PNC has been a long-time partner to the district and supporter of early childhood education in Dallas ISD through the following activities:

  • Providing grants in 2018 and 2019 totaling $70,000 to Arlington Park and Harllee early childhood centers’ environmental designs and materials;
  • Ongoing grants with Dallas ISD partner early learning centers to benefit district pre-k students’ early literacy and numeracy skills;
  • Providing 30+ iPads to Arlington Park Early Childhood Center and Harllee Early Childhood Center;
  • Serving as principal for a day at Arlington Park and Harllee early childhood centers;
  • Volunteering 80 hours in 2019 at Dallas ISD schools and partner centers.
