Dallas ISD to launch Reading Academies to increase number of students reading at grade level

Dallas ISD is gearing up for the district’s Reading Academies, launching this fall. The academies are the district’s response to last year’s passage of Texas House Bill 3, which requires all kindergarten through third-grade teachers and elementary principals to complete a 10-day reading academy before the end of the 2022-2023 school year.

For Dallas ISD, this is an opportunity to help meet the Board of Trustee’s goal of having at least 60 percent of our students reading at grade level in third grade by 2025. By developing more skilled and effective educators, the district will positively impact student literacy achievement.

“The HB3 Reading Academies will transform opportunity for students in Dallas ISD.  We are thrilled to be part of this deep learning with teachers and campus leaders across the district,” said Derek Little, assistant superintendent for Dallas ISD’s Early Learning Department.  “For the next three years, Dallas ISD will be deeply focused on ensuring every teacher is fully supported to address the literacy needs of every student.”
