Dallas ISD officially kicks off summer meals program with celebration at Dallas Zoo

The Dallas ISD Food and Child Nutrition Services Department officially celebrated its summer meals kickoff at the Dallas Zoo on June 14.

Families enjoyed free meals at the Summer Meals Kickoff.

The theme for this year’s initiative is “Wild About Summer Meals,” which was designed to be a fun way to bring awareness to the Summer Meals Program while enjoying the various animals and exhibits at the zoo.

Each year, the Food and Child Nutrition Services department serves roughly 40 million meals to students.

FCNS focuses its efforts in providing nourishing meals, nutrition education, and activities that support a healthy lifestyle to improve a student’s opportunity for a more productive and happy life. The initiative started June 3 and will continue through Aug. 9.
