Karla Garcia elected to serve on the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees

Karla Garcia won a runoff election on Saturday to serve District 4 on the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees.

Garcia is a native of Southeast Dallas and a Dallas ISD graduate. Garcia will join two other new faces to the board­–Ben Mackey and Maxie Johnson–who were elected in May. District 4 serves Southeast Dallas, Seagoville and Balch Springs.

What does a trustee do?

The Dallas ISD Board of Trustees establishes the policies by which schools operate. In carrying out the task of setting policy, the board identifies needs and establishes priorities for the school system, allocates financial and human resources among the priority areas, and evaluates school performance. Trustees also hire and supervise the superintendent.

How long does a trustee serve?

A trustee serves a three-year term of office.
