District proposes plan to provide additional resources to most at-need schools

Dallas ISD leadership briefed trustees on a proposal that would provide additional resources to about 20 of the district’s most at-need schools.

Under the proposal, the Funds for Achievement and Racial Equity (FARE) would provide an additional $245 per student at the most at-need schools. Each school’s principal would propose how to use that funding to boost student achievement and infrastructure needs, and district leadership would then review and approve the proposal.

Possible areas of additional support include:

  • Staffing (coaches, family liaisons, social workers)
  • Supplemental curriculum and instructional programs
  • After-school or enrichment programs
  • Professional development

Superintendent Michael Hinojosa told trustees that Dallas ISD has more revenue than originally projected due to higher-than-expected property tax revenue. The approximately $3 million to fund FARE would come from this additional revenue.

Trustees will consider approving FARE at the Aug. 23 board meeting. If approved, it would go into effect this school year.
