Medical City Children’s Hospital “kids teaching kids” program was at Dallas ISD’s Bowie Elementary on Tuesday, Feb. 27, for a snack demo and awards ceremony.

Culinary students from Emmett J. Conrad, Skyline, Franklin Roosevelt and Thomas Jefferson high schools participated in the snack contest, giving live demonstrations of their snack-recipe creations in front of students from Sidney Lanier Elementary and James Bowie Elementary. The students, parents and staff helped rate each snack to determine the winners.

Each year, the kids teaching kids partnership includes the donation of a snack cookbook to every elementary school student in Dallas ISD. The four top snacks from Tuesday will be published in next year’s book.

The gathering also included an award ceremony.  Physical Education teachers from Sidney Lanier (Theanna Kellogg) and James Bowie (Sharon Foster) won the PE incentive from the 21-Day Challenge sponsor, Kroger.  Each teacher was awarded $500 to help support their classrooms. Bowie Elementary was again the top-performing school in Dallas ISD and was able to retain the trophy and claim themselves Snack Masters in Dallas ISD.  Moreover, of the 447 schools in the 14 area participating school districts, Bowie elementary ranks 7th this past year.
