Sixty-two seniors in Dallas ISD’s Class of 2017 were recognized on Tuesday, April 18, as recipients of the Superintendent’s Scholarship. Each honoree received $2,500 to go toward costs at the college or university of their choice.

Selection for the Superintendent’s Scholarship Program is based on need, character, grades, recommendations and the promise of future success. The scholarships are administered by the Dallas Education Foundation and funded with proceeds from the annual Superintendent’s Golf Tournament.

Three other scholarship awards were also announced during the ceremony:

  • The Sultentic Family Foundation Scholarship recipients this year are Elsy Janeth Morales, H. Grady Spruce High School; Shyane Banuelos, Bryan Adams High School; and Lisbet Tudon Velazquez, Hillcrest High School. Each receives a $10,000 scholarship.
  • The $5,000 Eric Louis Brown Scholarship, established in honor of late T.W. Browne student-athlete Eric Louis Brown, was awarded to Aryn Davis, a Sunset High School student who plays on the school’s golf team.
  • The Jose “Joe” May Scholarship, named after the former Dallas ISD Trustee, was awarded to the Superintendent’s Scholarship recipient with the highest GPA, which was Jillian Barthelemy, Woodrow Wilson High School.
