Seniors encouraged to complete federal aid application by March 15

0
Wednesday, March 15, is the Texas priority deadline for aspiring college students to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Completing the application is the first step toward receiving federal aid for college or a career school. Many colleges also use FAFSA data to determine student eligibility for state and school aid.
Graduating seniors can receive up to $5,815 in Federal Pell Grant Funds, which do not have to be repaid, to help pay for tuition and fees at public and private colleges, community colleges and career schools. Hundreds of Dallas ISD seniors who are eligible to receive those funds have not yet completed the FAFSA.
There are several myths about financial aid, keeping some eligible students from completing the FAFSA and causing them to miss out on financial aid for college. In reality, most Dallas ISD students would qualify for grants, low-interest loans and work-study to help fund a postsecondary certificate or degree.
Learn more about the FAFSA application process by watching this short video. To receive individualized support from College Access Advisors and Postsecondary Success department staff, text “Dallas ISD” to 972-992-1681. Seniors unsure about their eligibility to receive federal aid because of immigration status should speak to their College Access Advisor or counselor. FAFSA eligibility criteria is listed here.
Students not eligible for federal student aid my apply for state aid by completing the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA).
