Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings recognized Preston Hollow Elementary at a recent UNICEF gala for helping raise money for a water filtration system for a small village in Africa.

Preston Hollow students wore UNICEF Kid Power Bands, which are similar to fit bits, and racked up points by taking steps. Those points translated into donated dollars for the water filtration system.

Preston Hollow Elementary Principal Tom Brandt said it was an honor for the school to be recognized by the mayor and UNICEF at the gala.

“We have some of the best kids in Texas here at Preston Hollow Elementary, and I’m proud of their efforts, one step at a time, to make a difference in the world,” Brandt said.

The UNICEF Gala was held at Sixty Five Hundred, 6500 Cedar Springs Road.
